What Disney Movie Came Out in 1994
The Dark Backstory Behind Elsa's Prison Cell
In Disney's Frozen, Elsa is captured by Prince Hans and wakes up in a prison cell in the basement of the castle.
What is unusual about this prison cell is that it has clearly been custom-built to contain Elsa herself. The shackles are gauntlets that cover her entire hands and prevent her from using her powers. There is no access to water for her to freeze and the chains stop just short of the window and the lake outside.
But where did this prison cell come from?
One answer might be that Hans witnessed Elsa's powers at the coronation, watched Anna ride off to find her sister and immediately leapt in to action. While managing a kingdom in panic, endearing himself to the people of Arendelle with blankets and provisions and dealing with an equally conspiring Duke, he covertly (but quickly) commissioned a prison to withhold powers he had only witnessed once ( on the off-chance someone might spontaneously suggest a search party to go capture Elsa and that search party actually managed to do it).
In this case the prison could be the invention of a particularly motivated prince, or even – whisper it –a plot-hole (I mean, it wouldn't be the only plot-hole in Frozen) b ut what if there is a darker explanation here?
What if…
Elsa's prison was built by a member of her own family

Do Zootopia and Robin Hood take place in an alternative Disney universe?
There's no getting around it. When it comes to the Disney universe, Robin Hood is a problem.
A dedicated blogger can obsessively connect, say, 30+ Disney movies in to a single coherent universe, and still have no idea how to connect all that to a world of anthropomorphic animals living in medieval Britain (and believe me, I tried).
Take for example King Richard – who is clearly a lion, but not in the same way Mufasa is a lion. Robin Hood is definitely a fox, but not in the same way Tod in The Fox In The Hound is a fox. At every turn, the Disney classic defied all attempts to link it to anything.
Then came Zootopia .
A world of right and wrong. Outlaws and justice. Foxes and bunnies who wore clothes and did jobs just like people. Obviously this is no coincidence…
Zootopia exists in the exact same world as Robin Hood.

Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys And The 8 Missing Worlds Of Kingdom Hearts III
Following news of the cancellation of aKingdom Hearts game for iOS, concept art began to emerge for the proposed Disney worlds that would have appeared in 'Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys'.
As well as returning to series favourites like Neverland, Agrabah and the Seven Dwarves' Mines, the art revealed locations from four Disney franchises that had not yet appeared in the expansive universe ofKingdom Hearts.
In this article, I'll share both the concept art for Fragmented Keys as well as art by the fans who want to see these worlds realised, and then I'll propose four more franchises that this direction could take Disney when it comes to laying out the worlds forKingdom Hearts III.

Big Hero 6 Is One Of The Few Real Worlds In The Disneyverse
In 30 Disney Movies That Share A WorldI presented the theory that the worlds of the Disney universe are all part a big alien experiment featuring endlessly connected, repeating narratives.
Wreck-It Ralph blew that theory out of the water, showing thatTangled – and therefore Frozen, Tarzan and basically every Disney favourite – are actually linked worlds in a giant computer program that plays out every time someone pays to play it again.
And thenBig Hero 6 was released. An astounding, action-packed Disney blockbuster that pulls no punches and proves to be an even bigger departure from the Disney canon than anybody realised…
Because Wreck It Ralph is just a game in the 'real' world ofBig Hero 6 .

Could Frozen 2 be a much darker sequel?
In a recent interview, Idina Menzel (voice of Frozen's Elsa) was asked about the potential forFrozen 2 as well as a stage musical adaptation, and Menzel replied that "they're all in the works".
Although the only currently confirmed Frozen animated project is 'Frozen Fever' – a short film about Anna's birthday set for a Spring 2015 release – earlier in the month, directorChris Buck also said to PopSugar that he thought there were "other stories to tell".
When your movie becomes the highest grossing animated film of all time a sequel is obviously going to be an appealing prospect. And certainly their fellow creators seems to be up for it. As far back as March, musical duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez accepted their Best Original Song Oscar singing 'Happy Oscar to you/Let's do Frozen 2'.
So if there is a Frozen sequel, what will it be about? Will the franchise go back to its original source? If so…
What is left of the 'Snow Queen' fairy-tale for Frozen 2?

Aladdin Is Set In A Distant Post-Apocalyptic Future
A popular (and quite possibly the first) Disney theory argues that Disney's Aladdin is set in the distant future, rather than the past, and that this can be proven by a handful of hints dropped by Genie in the movie.
I already have my own theories about Genie and his flexible approach to linear time, but since this idea has so many supporters it's at least worthy of some consideration.
So…
Is Aladdin Actually Living In A Post-Apocalyptic World?

How Frozen Connects To The Other 73 Disney Movies
Some enterprising individuals at allfancydress.com have produced an infographic that connects all 74 Disney movies in a pleasing Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon-esque way, only usingFrozen as the lynch-pin.
So far my theories have only managed to connect Frozen to Tangled,The Little Mermaid, Wreck-It Ralph,Tarzan and Beauty and the Beast, so trust me when I say it's worth a look.
More after the jump!

Why The Death Of Disney's Mother Can't Explain The Absence Of Disney Mothers
As an obvious fan of Disney Theories and fan speculation I'm always on the look out for interesting theories that might shed light on popular Disney movies.
So when people suddenly start talking about the link between the death of Walt Disney's mother and the fictional deaths of mothers in his films I'm definitely going to listen.
In this article I explore this Disney mother theory in full, question it, and explain what I think Disney theories are about and why real tragedies are not part of the fun.
What's Happening To Disney Mothers?

This Timeline Puts Every Disney Movie In Chronological Order
Aish over atdisneysnewgroove.tumblr.com has put together a timeline that could finally settle the arguments over the exact order of Disney movie settings.
The sequence differs greatly from my original Disney Theorybut is so well put together you can't fault her execution.
Disagree on any positions? Comments below.

Elsa Isn't The Only Princess With Super Powers
In The Frozen Theory I argue that Elsa and Rapunzel prove that only blonde princesses in the unified Disneyverse develop superpowers.
Now a new idea is contradicting that theory by suggesting that a certain other Disney princess has superpowers too.
Because Frozen's Anna has super-strength.
Before we explore this theory, let's look at the evidence:

The True Endings Of Disney's Fairy Tales
We all know many of the most popular Disney movies are based on fairy tale classics, but how much of these tales have been 'Disneyfied' for family-friendly ratings?
See below for the shocking stories behind your Disney favourites. If you know any other fairy-tale origins I would love to read them in the comments.

Mufasa Causes The Drought In The Lion King
Reddit is a perfect breeding ground for Disney theories (a fact previously proven true with The Frozen Theory).
This time the proposal comes from reddit-user, OstrichMadeOfClay:
'In The Lion King, Mufasa is responsible for the drought.'
I thought this was worth exploring in more than 57 words, and the longer I looked, the more sense it made. So I present to you:

The Disneyverse Has Its Own Walt Disney
One of the most contentious ideas I suggested inThe Disney Theorywas that there are some Disney films that also exist as fictional films within the Disneyverse .
Obviously this concept requires some brain-bending to make any sense, but the evidence supporting it seemed compelling enough for its own article.
While writing The Jane Theorythe pieces really began to fall in to place. Here I discovered that the Disneyverse has its own Walt Disney, and that man is in fact:
Professor Archimedes Q. Porter
Let's start from the beginning.

Tarzan's Jane Is Descended From Beauty And The Beast's Belle
While looking for details to support the theory connectingFrozen's King and Queen toTarzan's parents, I actually found more compelling evidence to suggest Tarzan's Jane is related to Belle.
Not one to walk away from a good Disney theory, I thought it was worth presenting that evidence.
So here it is:
The Jane Theory
In my Disney world article, I point out that a teapot looking like Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast appears in Tarzan. That theory suggests its another symptom of Disney's erratic magical characters, but what if it wasn't?
What if the tea-set Tarzan's gorilla-friend Terk is drumming on is actually a centuries-old heirloom from the Porters' noble past? In fact, it could be just one of the clues connecting Jane Porter to Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

Could Frozen's King And Queen Also Be Tarzan's Parents?
In my Frozen Theory article, I explored the connections fans have found to linkFrozen,Tangled and The Little Mermaid.
Since that article was posted, the writers and directors of Frozen, Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have taken to Reddit to clarify some of these rumours.
While Lee confirmed that Elsa's parents were going to a wedding in Frozen (a detail the Frozen Theory hinged upon), Buck threw out some tantalising details about what became of Elsa's parents.
Or rather, who they became…
What happened to Elsa's parents?

Disney Have Secretly Connected The Disney And Marvel Universes
When the Walt Disney Company bought Marvel Entertainment in 2008, comic-book fans were understandably concerned that Iron Man and the Avengers would soon be making awkward Disney Channel crossovers and filling Disney Store shelves.
But what if I told you that these universes had already been inadvertently linked? That the worlds ofPeter Pan and Peter Parker aren't as distant as you'd think.
What if I told you…
It is possible to connect Frozen andCaptain Americain four simple steps.

Kingdom Hearts Explained By The Disney Theory
In the Disney Theory, I set out to connect various Disney movies to a single unified Disney Universe.
A popular response to this post was that I was too late – that the Disney worlds had already connected several years ago by a little Disney/Square-Enix crossover project called Kingdom Hearts .
As a gamer and Disney fan, I was definitely aware of the Kingdom Hearts series, but had written it off as an 'alternative universe'. But spotting two certain Moogles in Wreck-It Ralph made me see that Kingdom Hearts is more significant to The Disney Theory than I realised.
So let me present:

Wreck-It Ralph Proves The Disneyverse Is One Giant Computer
In TheFrozen Theory, I explored the connections that 'prove' Frozen, Tangled and The Little Mermaid all take place in the same world.
I loved how it challenged the concept of a single unified Disney world (and also how it connected to Tangled, The Little Mermaid and The Disney Princess Theory) but there was one little detail that I found even more fascinating than the possible family links between Anna, Elsa and Rapunzel.
That detail was Wreck-It Ralph…

Is Elsa Rapunzel's Cousin? And How Else Are Frozen And Tangled Connected?
Recently, an imaginative redditor proposed a theory that connected the worlds of Frozen and Tangled.
Below I have compiled what I think are the best pieces of 'evidence' raised in support of the theory, as well as one key detail that I believe changes everything.
But first, the theory:
TheFrozen Theory
It didn't take long after the release of Frozen for the internet to spot a certain cameo during the song 'For The First Time In Forever'.

30 Disney Movies That Share A World
Are all Disney movies connected?
Walt Disney's films are littered with so many references and connections I was surprised I was the first to try mapping them in one unified Disney world.
I've stuck to major Disney movies and s equels, but I do appreciate the Disney Channel/XD/Junior cross-overs that many people have pointed out in the comments.
Also, because Jon Negroni did such a fantastic job with The Pixar Theory I've resist the urge to include connections between the Disney and Pixar worlds.
To see how Frozen fits in to the unified Disneyverse, read:The Frozen Theory.
All that aside, please enjoy my Disney theory…
Disney movies clearly don't take place in our world.
